Jewish Week 2023 in Leipzig
The slogan of this year's Jewish Week was “The whole city as a stage”. Numerous associations, the Ariowitschhaus, and the Leipzig City Cultural Office have worked hard to showcase the city's rich Jewish heritage and culture.
Tor nach Zion has organized book readings by Prof. Avishay Golz with the book “Ich suche meine Familie” in the city libraries of Grimma and Leipzig. A mixed-age audience listened eagerly to the Hebrew-German reading. Afterwards, Avishay signed books for sale. Rick and Dafna Wienecke traveled from Oswiecim for an evening about “Fountain of Tears” at the Burgcafé. The room was full of interested people who asked the artist very profound questions after the film.
It was a special pleasure for us to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tor zu Zion with many Jewish friends from Israel and Leipzig on July 1st at the end of Shabbat. The festive setting was marked by a klezmer band and a champagne reception. The Rau family's Hebrew songs touched the hearts, and Torsten Kluge's speech about Isaiah 62 challenged everyone to stand up for Zion. The blessing of Kerstin Kluge for her now expanded service in Gate to Zion and the very personal words of greeting were important. We are very grateful for this evening!
