Soup kitchen in Sderot
Location and situation:
Sderot is just 1 km from the northern tip of the Gaza Strip and only 5 km from the city of Gaza. Since Hamas has ruled there, Sderot has been under constant threat of rocket attacks. For this reason, housing prices are relatively low compared to other towns or villages and many residents live in Sderot because they cannot afford to live elsewhere.
Appeal for donations
After craftsmen from the Saxon Friends of Israel worked hard to renovate and expand the soup kitchen in Sderot, it was officially opened at the end of 2019.
During the pandemic, the neighboring clothing store was also completely renovated on the initiative of the Sderot Welfare Association, under the leadership of volunteer chairman Avichai Amusi.
Due to the pandemic and other reasons, the operation of the soup kitchen was only possible to a limited extent or not at all.
The soup kitchen is now back in operation, also in its intended function, and people are enjoying the opportunity to meet there.
Avichai has contacted us with a request for donations for the soup kitchen. Due to the ongoing threat from the Gaza Strip, the effects of the pandemic, and the influx of new immigrants as a result of the war in Ukraine, the needs of the people in Sderot and the surrounding area have increased further. There are more people in need of help in this region than ever before.
For this reason, there is now this appeal for donations. Anyone who cares about the needy people in Sderot and the surrounding area and can make it possible has the opportunity to donate to the following bank account:

News from the soup kitchen in Sderot
Former Leipzig Jews and their descendants
Building relationships with former Leipzig Jews and their descendants is at the heart of our work. Since 2000, Maria Hoffmann has been accompanying groups who come to us at the invitation of the city of Leipzig. Initially, in addition to visiting the graves of their ancestors, the focus was on bus trips to places with which they have fond childhood memories, such as Prague or Karlovy Vary. The City of Leipzig's invitation program was also extended to the third and fourth generations, as survivors of the Shoah are no longer able to come in person. We are therefore delighted that the grandson of Steffi, née Bamberger, Yvtach Dahadi, wants to run a Jewish restaurant in Leipzig in memory of his grandmother.
We also visited places of suffering such as the Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen concentration camps. Maria and our daughter Judith now visit survivors in Israel regularly. This has resulted in deep friendships and together they have been able to pursue paths of reconciliation and healing.
We have a special story with Prof. Avishay Golz and his wife Chava. You can read about this in his book, which Judith Stern translated from Hebrew into German: https://tnz.kitafarbenwelt.de/medien/
Fountain of Tears
Together with craftsmen from the Saxon Friends of Israel, we supported the artist Rick Wienecke in bringing the prophetic artwork “Fountain of Tears” (www.castingseeds.com) to Auschwitz-Birkenau. This unique dialog between the Crucified Christ and a Holocaust survivor can be seen near the main entrance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in connection with a House of Prayer.
A team has been trained to receive groups in Birkenau and guide them through the exhibition. Two or three team members regularly travel to Poland to receive groups and carry out small jobs in the exhibition area. Under the leadership of Maria Hoffmann in collaboration with Kerstin Kluge and others, this service is being further developed.
Judith Stern has translated the exciting autobiography of the artist Rick Wienecke and his wife Dafna into German. The meditation “A Dialogue of Suffering” on the artwork is also available in German and the multilingual DVD of the artwork: https://castingseeds.com/product-category/media/
Messianic believers in the Negev
Avner and Rachel Boskey (Omer)
Avner and Rachel are musicians and Bible teachers. We support their ministry of worship, biblical teaching, and training in praise and worship. They impart a biblical understanding of what is happening in Israel and with the nations. In Omer, they have an open house where they welcome visitors and have worship times. Avner impresses with his profound biblical and linguistic knowledge. Avner and Rachel combine Hebrew-Oriental and modern styles in their music. Bianca Franzen has translated the book “Israel - The Key to Global Revival” into German. This is available from us: https://tnz.kitafarbenwelt.de/medien/ Further books and their worship music can be purchased on their website: https://davidstent.org/books/ and https://davidstent.org/music-page/. In addition, a series of teaching videos about the minor prophets can be viewed in English: https://davidstent.org/video/ Judith Stern translates Avner's regularly published prayer letters. Jaron and Kelly Glik and others (Sede Boker)
With Jaron and Kelly, Christians from all over the world and also from Germany meet regularly with Messianic believers. Together they worship God, encourage each other, and live the one new man in Christ (according to Ephesians 2:15). Sede Boker is one of the most beautiful places in the middle of the Negev desert, where Ben Gurion lived. Excursions from there and fellowship with the Glik family and their friends are unforgettable experiences. Their new food truck invites you to enjoy a tasty meal.
Especially recommended are their beautiful guest apartments right next to the Vadi Zinn, through which Israel entered the land under Moses' leadership https://www.desertrose.co.il/
